Air abrasion or a rhondaflex procedure is a revolutionary, conservative means to repair a tooth with decay that is done painlessly without anesthesia. The procedure uses a miniature sandblaster that removes a minimal amount of tooth structure in order fill the tooth. While this technique can only be used for small areas of decay, it greatly reduces the loss of otherwise healthy tooth structure that needs to be removed in a typical filling.
